How We Make Custom Nautical Hardwood Charcuterie boards
A Step-by-Step Guide to Our Craftsmanship
Sourcing the Wood
We use rough hardwood from the hills of Tennessee, where the trees grow naturally and sustainably. We select the best quality wood that has the right grain, color, and durability for our boards. We transport the wood to our shop, where we cut it to the desired size and shape.
Laminating the Strips
We use a special water-proof glue to laminate the wood strips together, creating a strong and stable base for our boards. We clamp the strips tightly and let them dry for at least 24 hours. Then, we use a planer to smooth the surface and remove any excess glue.
Carving the Images
We use a CNC machine to carve the marine images into the boards, creating a depth of 1/4 inch. We have a variety of designs to choose from, such as Mahi Mahi, turtles, Hogfish, Sook, Lobster, Mermaids octopus and more. We can also customize the images according to the customer's preferences. We fill the carved areas with food-safe epoxy, which adds vibrant color and contrast to the images. We let the epoxy cure for another 24 hours.
Sanding and Finishing
We sand the boards multiple times, starting with a coarse grit and ending with a fine grit of 3000. This ensures that the boards have an ultra-smooth finish and brings out a brilliant to the resin artwork. Finally, we treat the boards with our own creation of board butter, which contains food-safe mineral oil and beeswax. This protects the wood from moisture, stains, and bacteria, and gives it a natural and beautiful look.
Packaging and Shipping
We wrap the boards carefully in bubble wrap and place them in sturdy boxes. We include a care card that explains how to maintain the boards and keep them in good condition. We ship the boards to the customer's address, using the most reliable and affordable courier service. We also provide a tracking number and delivery confirmation.
